Harper CE Wins International Award

For Immediate Release – December 9, 2025

The Community, Career & Corporate Education unit at Harper College has won an International Award in continuing education for instructor training by the Learning Resources Network (LERN), the leading association in continuing education.

Dr. Scott Cashman accepted the award.  The award was only one of eleven given at LERN’s big annual conference recently attended by over 1,400 professionals in lifelong learning from three countries.

“The award is for innovation in the field of lifelong learning and serving communities,” noted LERN President William A. Draves.  “These awards enhance the quality and involvement in lifelong learning, an absolutely critical component to individual and community quality of life and prosperity in this century,” he noted.

In announcing the award, Draves noted, “This program is embarking on a two-step process to regularly orient and train their noncredit instructors on the skills needed today to help their adults students learn. We know the teacher is the most important factor in anyone’s learning.  We know that almost no one is trained to be a teacher. We know that a good teacher is increasingly a competitive edge and advantage over other low cost and inferior providers.”
