Course Description

Turn your lived experiences into inspired and share-worthy pieces of creative writing. Through experiments with form, discussion of readings, workshop opportunities, and writer’s-block-busting prompts, students will grow their creative writing toolkit, and develop the confidence to create imaginative, powerful, and engaging writing that takes its origins in lived experience. Students may bring poetry, prose, and stories they’ve been working on/thinking about, or you can come without a project in mind and build a new piece of writing during the course. At the end of the course, students will be given instruction and resources as to how and where they might publish or otherwise showcase their work.

While this course is best suited to new and beginning writers, the only real requirement is to come as you are, ready to play, take risks, be bold, tell stories, get inspired, discover, and create

Develop the confidence to create imaginative, powerful, and engaging works

Testimonials

I participated in class #LLA0049-004 Writing from Experience with Allison Gruber, which just finished this week.  I thoroughly enjoyed the class and gained many useful insights, perspectives, and resources to help me in my journey to write a personal memoir.  Allison is insightful and encouraging and created a safe, comfortable space for all participants to share their works and ideas.  I would like to see a follow-up course to this one since creative writing is a process that takes time as thoughts and ideas evolve.  New writers need direction and encouragement as they bring their stories to life, and Allison provides both with insights into her own experiences, a broad network of resources, constructive feedback, and contagious passion for all forms of writing.  I would gladly invest the time and money to participate in a follow-up class with Allison as the instructor.
