Course Description

One of the most essential and appealing elements of artmaking is working with color. In this course, learn all about color theory and the various ways to incorporate it into your art. Through color mixing and color schemes, each student will create an enticing and colorful body of work. We will be working with acrylic paint on canvas. The instructor will provide demonstrations and individual assistance. Completion of Drawing for Beginners or similar experience is encouraged for this course.

Course Outline

In each session, the instructor will discuss different artists who work with color theory and provide examples of their work. 
Week 1 Intro of class, discussion of color theory, color value practice, color wheel, mixing practice.  
Week 2 Through color mixing, mimic the color of objects, provided by the instructor.
Week 3 Painting a monochromatic still life, provided by the instructor.
Week 4 and 5 Painting a color scheme still life, provided by the instructor.
Week 6 and 7 Painting your chosen color scheme and imagery. 
Week 8 Class discussion of each student’s portfolio, final thoughts.
