Course Description

Cozy Mysteries are to die for! Maybe not literally, but cozy fans are some of the most devoted readers in fiction. Join this book club to explore the charming elements of this beloved genre, including an amateur sleuth, quirky characters, quaint village, red herrings and justice served. This spring, we'll do a bit of armchair traveling (through Singapore, Scotland, Australia and Canada) with our international armchair sleuths. The monthly reading list for the spring series is: January 30 - Aunty Lee's Delights: A Singaporean Mystery by Ovidia Yu; February 20: Death of a Gossip by M.C. Beaton; March 19 - Cocaine Blues: A Phryne Fisher Mystery by Kerry Greenwood; and April 23 - Still Life: The First Chief Inspector Gamache Novel by Louise Penny. Please read each book before class and be ready to share a deadly fun discussion led by cozy mystery lover and author Laura Ehrke.

Testimonials

In the past I have tried mystery book discussions at my local library. I never found them to be very insightful, fun or having books that were enjoyable to read, that has all changed after attending Laura Ehrke's Cozy Mystery Book Club. I learned so much about the writing and what goes into making a cozy mystery. Laura provided so many insights about all the books we read for the class. There were details I would have completely missed if it wasn't for Laura teaching and my fellow students' observations. Laura was well prepared for class and always made time for the class to interact. In addition to learning about the books we read and their authors, I was happy to find about other authors and books series that are now on my must read list. This is a great class to take for anyone who loves cozies or is just wants to learn more about the writing process. I have already signed up for the summer session. Cathy Gilman

I have been searching for a Murder Mystery Book Club for years and this one was a great experience. The instructor led the discussions and we all had a great time and gained some insight into cozy mysteries. I liked it so much I have signed up for the next series and I am really looking forward to it! We even had a tea party during the last session. Sheryl Stogis

The Cozy Mystery Book Club is the first class I have taken through LLI. Laura Ehrke leads a fun and lively conversation on a different mystery once a month. We also have group discussions about the different ways to look at the cozy mystery genre, not to mention, a lot of fun trying out some of the recipes provided by the books themselves. I can hardly wait for the summer book club to start. Janet Larson
