Course Description

Ever since Darwin went on a naturalist’s voyage on the HMS Beagle, human interest and inquiry continues on these isolated equatorial islands near Ecuador. Ongoing studies of unique species of plant and animal life continues to support the Theory of Evolution that Darwin wrote about in his book On The Origin of Species in 1859. This class will take a look at the variety of organisms and their adaptations that made them so interesting to Darwin and all of science. We will also see that the interest has created environmental conflicts for the people of the Galapagos and tourism as well as the natural species found on these islands.
