Course Description

This course provides students with proficiency on the flute and extends the opportunity to perform in various chamber ensembles. It stresses sight-reading and musicianship and develops skills and musical understanding in an enjoyable and approachable atmosphere. Explore the repertoire of flute trio, quartet, quintet, and flute choir music from the baroque, classical, and contemporary eras. Work as a group and enhance your teamwork skills through stabilizing tempo, intonations, technique, and tuning. There will be a final concert at the end of the course at the Performing Arts Center (PAC). This class is not for beginners. If you play the flute and not sure of your level, please contact the instructor Hideko Amano at hamanoka@harpercollege.edu; you may be asked to submit a recording of your playing.

Once you register, the instructor will get in touch with you to determine your level, and accordingly, you will be placed in a suitable group. The class will essentially split into various groups defined by level and/or age. Therefore, time and days where such separate sessions meet will be communicated to you a week or two prior to the beginning of the class. If you have any questions about this please contact the instructor.
