Course Description
Readers gain a new perspective on Edgar Allan Poe and the short story genre by reading and discussing three of Poe’s classic short stories and one poem: The Murders in the Rue Morgue on 10/4/19; The Gold-Bug on 10/18/19; and The Tell-Tale Heart and The Raven on 11/1/19. These stories are included in “The Works of Edgar Allan Poe, The Raven Edition by Edgar Allan Poe" and are available to download for free (click on the links below), or they can be e-mailed to you upon request. Please read each designated story before class and be ready to share a spirited discussion led by novelist author and book-lover, Professor Laura Ehrke.Notes

About the Instructor
Laura Ehrke is a published novelist, blogger, marketing specialist and writing coach. Her education includes studying British literature and poetry at Oxford University, a bachelor’s degree in communications from DePaul University and a master’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Chicago, with supplemental graduate coursework in writing at Northwestern University. As an author, Laura has been featured at several events, including Comic Con, Pop Culture Con, the University of Chicago Liberal Arts Panel, NaNoWriMo forums, and library programs. She brings her passion for writing into her courses, inspiring students to have fun while developing their creativity and writing skills.
