Course Description

Introduction to Screenwriting is the first course in the Screenwriting Badge program. If you have an idea for a movie and want to learn how to write a screenplay, this course is perfect for you. In this course, you will learn the basics of screenwriting, including rules of storytelling, story structure, character development, subplots, twists, research skills, and more. You will learn how to write a script using industry-standard best practices and receive feedback from your instructor and peers. By the end of the course, you will have a solid understanding of how to write a first-draft feature-length or short film screenplay. Students should have basic computer skills.

The instructor, Virginia Bailey, is an independent film/video writer, producer, director, and author of children's audiobooks, hardcover, softcover, and eBooks. She also teaches Screenwriting II, Advanced Screenwriting Workshop, Pre and Post-Production for Film, Television & Internet, and Writing Children's Books.

Testimonials

Taking this class was worth my journey into screenplay writing. I always had a passion for writing but never could figure out if it was for books or a screenplay until I took this class for Parts 1 and 2. Virginia Bailey is a fantastic teacher. She showed me things I would have never learned on my own. She guided us all in the right direction. I had to stop and listen to what she was pointing out, and when I did, I started to see my work come to life. If it were not for her putting out this class, I would have been lost through the process of writing my first screenplay. I am thankful for her help, and I hope for part 3 of her class.  - Ciara
