Course Description

Refresh or learn new blood draw skills to perform a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and precautions. Topics include venous samples, vacuum collection devices, capillary skin punctures, order of draw, locating difficult veins, butterfly needles, and special considerations. Through lecture and lab experiences, student will also receive training in infection prevention, proper patient identification and labeling of specimens. You will practice venipuncture procedures on practice models, fellow students and volunteers. This 20-hour course will meet weekly for 5 weeks and is designed for healthcare professionals looking to improve technique or learn new phlebotomy skills, or those currently employed in healthcare who wish to learn phlebotomy. This course does not qualify students to take the NHA phlebotomy certification exam.
