Course Description

Embark on an intensive 5-day course designed to equip first-year general and choral music educators with essential tools and strategies for a successful start to their teaching careers. "Getting My Classroom Ready for 1st-Year General Teachers Music and Choral Education" is a comprehensive program that covers all aspects of classroom preparation and management, specifically tailored for music educators.

First-year teachers, get your classroom ready. Prepare Icebreakers for the first week of school. Learn how to pick your choral music literature.

Create your opening letters to parents, students, websites, and more.

Work with a thirty-year veteran teacher, Karen Novack.

 

Course Outline

Over the course of 10 hours (2 hours per day for 5 days), participants will:

1- Classroom Setup and Organization

  • Learn effective layouts for music classrooms
  • Discover budget-friendly decoration ideas
  • Explore organizational strategies for sheet music and instruments

2- First Week Engagement

  • Master a variety of musical icebreakers and team-building activities
  • Develop strategies for establishing classroom routines and expectations

3- Curriculum Planning

  • Learn techniques for selecting appropriate choral literature
  • Create a balanced repertoire for various skill levels and occasions

4- Communication and Outreach

  • Craft compelling welcome letters for students and parents
  • Design an engaging classroom website or online presence
  • Develop strategies for ongoing parent communication

5- Administrative Preparation

  • Understand necessary paperwork and administrative tasks
  • Learn about budgeting for a music program
  • Explore fundraising ideas for music departments
