Course Description

When reading or listening to or watching the news, you hear about “post-truth,” “fake news”, and “truthiness” and you might even wonder if truth is still relevant in the news? This class gives you an overview of news literacy and the tools necessary to make your own informed analysis of news stories. Learn to deconstruct a news story and evaluate the elements that make it news (or not). Engage in a lively discussion of current news topics and reporting. This class is part of the Illinois Press Association’s News Literacy/ Civic Engagement Project which began in 2015.
