Course Description

This course sets the stage for your future studies in accounting, equipping you with essential knowledge to understand and analyze financial reports. You will gain a solid foundation in key accounting concepts and explore accounting as an information system that generates financial statements for external users. Learn how transactions and economic events impact a business's financial condition and operating results.

Topics include: Basic accounting concepts and terminology, the accounting equation, financial statements, accrual and cash basis, and the accounting cycle. The course assumes a corporate form of organization.

Learner Outcomes

  • Analyze business transactions using accounting concepts and principles. 
  • Analyze business transactions within the accounting equation and the rules of debit and credit. 
  • Compose journal entries from (a variety of) transactions.
  • Complete an entire accounting cycle.
  • Identify and prepare financial statements.
