Course Description

This course aims to teach employees how to work safely and identify potential hazards in various workplace settings, including businesses, manufacturing, hospitality, and buildings, with a special emphasis on warehouse settings. Covered topics include heat-related illnesses, work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs), and other types of worker activities that could have health-related impacts. The course is based on established training and procedural guidance from OSHA standards, Info Sheets, Fact Sheets, and other OSHA, CDC, and NIOSH materials.
Course Outline
- Worker Rights and OSHA regulations and expectations of employers.
- Slip, Trips, and Falls.
- Heat-related illnesses and/or injuries.
- Work Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs).
- Ergonomics, proper lifting, and hand safety.
- Workplace Safety Evaluations, and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
Learner Outcomes
- Understand and be familiar with OSHA’s Walking and Working Surfaces
- Understand Heat Injury prevention.
- Understand what work-related activities cause musculoskeletal disorders.
- Understand ergonomics programs and their benefits.
- Understand and be familiar with Workplace Safety Evaluations and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
Notes
Harper College is a proud recipient of the OSHA Susan Harwood Training Grant which provides FREE training and education for currently unemployed/displaced workers planning on returning to the workforce in the next three months, or small businesses with less than 250 employees.
Government employees are not eligible to participate due to grant regulations (Local/City/Municipality, County, State or Federal) unless occupational health and safety training is part of the employee's job role. The intended audience includes:

- New Businesses
- Limited English Proficiency Workers
