Course Description

This course is designed to provide employees with strategies on how to safely move, handle, and store materials in a working warehousing environment. Safety principles and how to prevent workplace accidents and injuries will be covered. A material handling & storage training presentation will be shared and will apply to all types of workplace settings, with a focus on warehousing and distribution. The course is based on established training and procedural guidance from OSHA standards, Info Sheets, Fact Sheets, and other OSHA, CDC, and NIOSH materials.

Course Outline

  • What should your employees know before moving, handling, and storing materials?
  • What precautions should workers take when moving materials manually, or mechanically?
  • Understand what safety measures employers should take regarding conveyors.
  • Learn what precautions workers must take to avoid storage hazards.
  • Understand what safeguards workers must follow when stacking materials.
  • Learn about aisles and passageways safety.
  • OSHA, CDC, and NIOSH recommended training and educational material.

Learner Outcomes

  • Understand how training, education, and applying general safety principles such as proper work practices, equipment, and controls can help reduce workplace accidents involving the moving, handling, and storing of materials.
  • Understand the proper techniques for preventing injuries when manually handling and storing material.
  • Know the safety concerns and safe equipment operating techniques when mechanically handling and storing material.
  • Understand the precautions that workers must take when sorting and stacking materials to not create hazards.
  • Understand the hazards of working with conveyors and the safety measures to prevent injuries.

Notes

Harper College is a proud recipient of the OSHA Susan Harwood Training Grant which provides FREE training and education. Government employees are not eligible to participate due to grant regulations (Local/City/Municipality, County, State or Federal) unless, occupational health and safety training is part of the employee's job role.

  • Currently unemployed/displaced workers planning on returning to the workforce in the next three months.
