Course Description

This course aims to introduce students to one of the essential electric bass techniques, the Slap Bass. This technique is applied to many contemporary music genres, such as Funk, Soul, Fusion, and R&B. The course will cover the primary process and the analysis of the methods of some of the most recognized slap bass players, such as Marcus Miller, Victor Wooden, Alain Caron, etc. The slap bass technique will be taught under three main sections: rhythmic accompaniment, melodic development, and slap & tapping for more complicated harmonic and melodic structures and developing faster tempo skills. Students must have basic experience with the electric bass at the beginning level. All types of electric basses are welcome (4-string, 5-string, and 6-string). Students must bring their instruments and amplifiers.
