Course Description

Explore the art of the Shibori dye technique developed in Japan starting in the mid-8th century.  Shibori is distinguished by using only one color; initially, only indigo was used as the dye. Out of the six primary forms of Shibori, we will explore Itajame, Kanoko, Arashi, and Kumo.  Students will receive 28 x 28 cotton tea towels for each dying technique. If you wish to dye an alternative item, please contact the instructor at ha14605@harpercollege.edu to ensure dye quantity and pre-treating fabric by washing it in hot water and drying it with no fabric softener.
