Course Description

Part Two of the Workplace Violence Prevention course series provides strategies for establishing an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for responding to an active shooter incident in any workplace setting. The course covers how to develop an EAP, policy, procedure, and program implementation for an organization. Participants will learn where to find information, resources, training material, and additional support to develop plans for a response to an active shooter. The course is based on established training, response, and procedural guidance from federal law enforcement agencies.

Course Outline

  • Familiarization with OSHA requirements to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Conducting a risk assessment of the workplace.
  • Understand the components of an employee Early Warning System (EWS). 
  • Identify resources to begin to develop an Emergency Action Plan for the workplace.
  • Developing an Active Shooter Prevention Plan
  • Integrating law enforcement response to the planning process for an active shooting incident.
  • Involvement of Human Resources and other stakeholders into a company-wide training component.

Learner Outcomes

  • Learn basic process for developing an Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
  • Understand the resources available to develop an EAP for the workplace.
  • Conducting a site survey and looking at your workplace in a different way.
  • Identify possible warning signs of a potentially violent employee.
  • Integrating law enforcement in response of an active shooting incident.
  • Find training and support resources for employees related to workplace violence.
