Course Description
This group drumming class is for kids ages 11 to 14 and focuses on the basic teaching basic skills. Over two weeks, you will enjoy learning a variety of rhythms taught in a fun and interactive way, enhancing your musical abilities and sense of rhythm. You'll also engage in listening exercises, playing pieces, and hands-on drills. Throughout the class, you will develop a foundational understanding of various rhythm patterns and the related terminology. The primary instrument used will be a bucket, and all instruments will be provided. No prior experience is required to join in on the fun!
Course Outline
In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of drumming — stick control, rhythm patterns, and simple grooves — using practice pads, small percussion, and drum sets. This class introduces essential coordination and timing skills every drummer needs, leading up to a short performance where students show off their new beats!Notes

Petros Dragoumis is a multi-instrumentalist and multicultural professional musician, instructor, and author with over 35 years of experience. Throughout his international career he has performed, recorded, and collaborated within many different aspects of the music industry, such as live concerts, recording sessions, productions, TV shows, workshops, etc. As a performer, his music is influenced by Greek, Ethnic, as well as the Afro-American Jazz culture, with emphasis on odd meters and exotic scales. Petros has studied at the Macedonian Conservatory, the Bass Collective of New York, the Rotterdam Conservatory Codarts, and Arizona State University. His instructors included John Patitucci, Lincoln Goines, Mike Pope, and Matt Garrison. Petros is also the author of several music textbooks including instructional methods for bass guitar, guitar, and bouzouki, as well as music theory. Petros resides in Chicago and is involved in various music projects while teaching at Harper College and being the co-director of Odeion School of Music in Skokie.
