LEI0007 - Introduction to Jewelry Making
Course Description
Learn to hand-fabricate jewelry. Guided projects will introduce you to basic jewelry-making techniques, including sawing, piercing, stamping, surface texturing, making rolling mill patterns, soldering, polishing, finishing, simple stone setting, and more. You will learn to design and produce your creations, making earrings, rings, pendants, and other pieces. Tools and an initial metal supply to complete a basic project are provided. Students with some experience can work at their own pace.

Also, Harper College Bookstore has an extensive art section--a great resource, especially when you run out of materials at the last minute. Open until 7pm Monday-Friday. Hours vary during the first two weeks of classes and when classes aren’t in session.
Items to have for the first day of class:
Sketchbook for sketching design ideas. Tracing Paper Pad.
Pencil: soft lead. Rubber Cement
3x5 white index cards
Any and all jewelry tools
Any and all previously completed jewelry projects
Additional supply items needed:
Students will most likely need to purchase some additional metal for their projects. Metal will be available from the instructor for an additional fee. (The average will be $10-$40 per student; cost could be more depending upon individual design.)
As the course progresses, students may desire to purchase semi-precious stones for settings. More information regarding these purchases will be provided during the first class in the course.

Occasionally, Continuing Education courses are cancelled due to low enrollment. Cancellation decisions are made three (3) days in advance of the start date of the course. We highly recommend that you do not purchase supplies and/or textbooks until you are sure that the class has not been cancelled.
