LLL0054 - Online Intensive Spanish - Component I
Course Description
This is the first of two courses that lead you to the Spanish Language Badge. You’ll have direct access to your instructor in this online-only course. Computer and internet access is required so you can log into the digital platform where your instructor posts assignments, quizzes, and exams. The course takes you from beginner to intermediate levels of proficiency. There are no prerequisites to enroll.Learner Outcomes
Through each component level, the students will progressively learn:
• how to express original thoughts in Spanish;
• communicate using the target tenses and moods at the enrolled course level;
• provide a corpus of useful vocabulary and phrases in context with real life usage;
• be able to give and receive instructions and directions;
• be able to express uncertainty, provide polite suggestions, and give commands;
• be able to read and write at an intermediate, and up to an advanced level.

TECHNOLOGY AND MEDIA:
The courses will be on-line classes using the Vista Higher Learning Supersite as the platform where:
o The enrollee will purchase a onetime code to the VHL Supersite that will have the duration of 12 months, and renewable, and that will serve as the access to the VHL Supersite (the platform) where all activities that are necessary to complete each course are assigned;
o The instructor will assign activities on this platform, such as oral and written exercises, virtual dialogs, readings for understanding, cultural context in various media;
o All necessary quizzes for diagnostic assessments, midterm exam for formative assessment, and a final exam for summative assessment will be assigned and graded;.
o Blackboard will be the hub from which the mandatory orientation will be accessed by the students, and where the course materials and resources will be found by all enrollees.

Born in Cuba, in the cosmopolitan city of pre-revolution Havana, came with parents and siblings to the U.S. in 1963 with the diplomatic aide of the Swiss Government in that country. With a deep interest in languages and world cultures stemming from an early age, my university studies have focused in linguistic anthropology, comparative and social linguistics, and language reconstruction delving into the theoretical quest for “proto-language.” A native speaker of Spanish, have also studied French and continue to learn other languages, such as Romanian and Italian. Another interest has been the sport of Olympic style fencing, in which National ranking and classifications are held, and still compete at the highest levels of competitions in the sport.
