Course Description
An introduction to drawing with emphasis on representation, perceptual growth, and individual expression. Students develop control of line, value, and spatial illusion using a variety of art media and tools while building confidence, observing from life, and experimenting with personal style. Creative problem solving and visual thinking are encouraged. All materials are provided, except for the required book.

Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
• Demonstrate motor abilities, which will be coordinated with visual abilities, through a series of drawing assignments that are designed for the course.
• Differentiate various media for a variety of possible solutions to a particular drawing assignment.
• Demonstrate basic drawing principles and understanding of formal and historical solutions to compositions in drawing.
• Develop their own personal draftsmanship through direct exercises assigned in class.
• Develop their personal cognitive awareness of design by drawing from set still-life or models used in class.
• Develop the ability to critically evaluate the aesthetic qualities of his work through class critiques.
• Use correct art terminology in verbal and written formats.
• Apply drawing concepts to other related art courses in the program.
• Develop a sense of self-realization and understanding of his or her work.
