Course Description

Dive into the fascinating world of quantum information science and engineering (QISE). You will unpack key terms, concepts, and historical insights while exploring how quantum will transform technology, industry, and society. You will have a chance to build an appreciation for both the scope of the socio-economic impact of QISE, as well as for the overall effect this impact will have on the future workforce and your place in it.

Your Instructor

Russell R. Ceballos, Ph.D.
Director of Innovation, QuSTEAM
Associate Director of Curriculum & Education Partnerships, Chicago Quantum Exchange

Russell Ceballos is a quantum information theorist originally from the South-East side of Chicago (specifically: South Deering, Hegewisch, South Chicago, and the Eastside). Dr. Ceballos has a background in the theory of open quantum systems and is currently a faculty member of Physics at Olive-Harvey College - City Colleges of Chicago. He has a profound interest in the mathematical and philosophical foundations of quantum theory, as well as has a deep passion for understanding how to best teach the fundamental principles of quantum information science through the development of quantum games for pedagogy.

He previously served as the Associate Dean for the Center of Excellence in Engineering and Computer Science at Wilbur Wright College - City Colleges of Chicago, as well as the Associate Director of Curriculum and Educational Partnerships at the Chicago Quantum Exchange. Outside of the classroom, Dr. Ceballos focuses on leveraging his technical background to 1.) develop quantum curricula and course content, 2.) develop and support quantum-focused programs that foster a culture of excellence in Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) for students on the South-East Side of Chicago by continuing to construct a supportive network of quantum-focused partnerships with other educational and research institutes in the region (which includes high schools and community colleges) that extends across and between all demographics and disciplines.

QuSTEAM

QuSTEAM is a non-profit membership-based organization that is re-envisioning how quantum information science and engineering (QISE) is taught to enable a skilled, capable, and effective quantum workforce. They serve a network of academic institutions and industry employers. Their purpose is to facilitate the national scale-up of effective undergraduate quantum education by building and supporting a collaborative network of academic institutions, private sector employers, and a community of instructors. QuSTEAM helps the quantum education community disseminate, research, curate, and deliver instructional content using methods that engage students and promote success.
