Course Description

In observance of the 100th anniversary in 2025 of the Daniel Burnham designed Union Station, certified Chicago tour guide, author, and rail buff, Jerome M. O’Connor, will discuss with rare photos how and why Chicago became essential to America’s entire rail network. Beginning with “The Pioneer” locomotive in 1848, six magnificent stations transported millions throughout the country. Relive the era when the Burlington California Zephyr, 20th Century Limited, Santa Fe Super Chief, and other legendary names huffed into Chicago with famous guests interviewed and taken to the Drake and other hotels. View the dramatically transformed Union Station. All aboard!
