Course Description
Learn Chess from the Expert
Do you want to learn how to play chess? Or, do you know how to move the pieces but are uncertain about strategy basics? Or, have you played chess for many years but have never seriously studied Opening Theory or End Game Theory? If any of these descriptions apply to you please join us for 4.5 hours of chess immersion and practice led by chess expert Gary Midkiff. The goal of these sessions will be to help each participant improve their confidence in their play. Class 2/20/2025, 3/20/2025, and 4/10/2025.

Gary Midkiff holds degrees from The University of Chicago and Northwestern University. A college professor, lecturer and discussion leader, he specializes in American history, politics, foreign policy and business. In conjunction with the Foreign Policy Association, Gary facilitates “Great Discussions” groups throughout Chicago’s suburbs.
