Like most people, you have probably taken a prescription medication at some point in your life. Have you wondered how a drug gets approved to be prescribed to patients? What type of evidence did the pharmaceutical company need to provide? How do clinical trials work? Maybe you have read news stories about prescription drugs and heard terms such as “advisory committee,” “accelerated approval,” “emergency use authorization.” What are these terms? This class will provide an overview of the drug development process, clinical trials, and the role of the Food and Drug Administration.
