Course Description

Build a foundation in core accounting concepts while exploring whether accounting is the right career for you. You’ll learn how financial transactions impact a business and gain introductory skills that prepare you for QuickBooks and Payroll courses at the college. This course will equip you with essential knowledge to understand and analyze financial reports. Learn how transactions and economic events impact a business's financial condition and operating results.

Topics include: Basic accounting concepts and terminology, the accounting equation, financial statements, accrual and cash basis, and the accounting cycle. The course assumes a corporate form of organization.

Learner Outcomes

  • Analyze business transactions using accounting concepts and principles. 
  • Analyze business transactions within the accounting equation and the rules of debit and credit. 
  • Compose journal entries from (a variety of) transactions.
  • Complete an entire accounting cycle.
  • Identify and prepare financial statements.
