Course Description

Gain a solid foundation in key accounting concepts and explore accounting as an information system that generates financial statements for external users. This course sets the stage for your future studies in accounting, equipping you with essential knowledge to understand and analyze financial reports. Learn how transactions and economic events impact a business's financial condition and operating results.

Topics include: Basic accounting concepts and terminology, the accounting equation, financial statements, accrual and cash basis, and the accounting cycle. The course assumes a corporate form of organization.

Learner Outcomes

  • Analyze business transactions using accounting concepts and principles. 
  • Analyze business transactions within the accounting equation and the rules of debit and credit. 
  • Compose journal entries from (a variety of) transactions.
  • Complete an entire accounting cycle.
  • Identify and prepare financial statements.
