Course Description

This lecture recaptures the turbulent first decade of the escalating AIDS epidemic in the U.S., focusing on grassroots organizing and empowerment, in the context of profound social stigma and political apathy. The instructor worked for 10 years in community-based AIDS research affiliated with Harvard Medical School, NIH, CDC, and the City of Boston. As an eyewitness to tremendous suffering, but also to radical activism borne of social injustice and cumulative grief, he brings a unique perspective on the socio-political upheavals of those times.
