Course Description

Have you ever wondered how the great ‘encyclopedic’ art museums of the west have come to collect, own, and display many ancient works of art?  Do you know that private collectors and art dealers of antiquities have been found guilty of plundering many art treasures of ancient civilizations?  Are you aware that in the 18th and 19th centuries, when European nations began to show an interest in collecting antique art objects, and conducted expeditions to their colonies in Asia, Africa and Central America, in order to bring many treasures to their encyclopedic art museums, such objects could be enjoyed only by the citizens of countries such as England, France, Germany and the United States?
