Course Description

This session is surrounding the Aeneid written by Virgil in 29-19 BCE. During this period Augustus commissioned Virgil to write this seminal piece not only to define the Roman identity but to legitimize his future empire. We will discuss the Heroes journey coined by Joseph Campbell as well. But truly how the Aeneid and the propaganda surrounding it ensured Augustan rule and legitimacy.
