Outstanding member of Washington’s military staff during the Revolutionary War, principal writer of the Federalist papers, first Secretary of the Treasury in Washington’s first cabinet, supporter of the Alien and Sedition Act and unofficial campaign manager for Thomas Jefferson during the contest for President within the U.S. House of Representatives following the election of 1800.
