Back Porch Revue

Course Description

This course focuses on the down-picking banjo style known as “clawhammer” or “frailing.” Clawhammer-style picking traced its roots back to West Africa and was introduced to North America by enslaved Africans. It is more percussive than Bluegrass 3 Finger Picking and can be used for chordal accompaniment and melodic playing. This course will cover both right-hand (picking and strumming patterns) and left-hand techniques(Chords, scales, slides, etc.). Prior experience with string instruments is a plus but not necessary.
