Drummers sitting at two drum kits, with guitarists on everyone’s best list, have fueled each of these bands. This unique fact, however, is not the only thing that causes us to put these two Hall of Fame bands into the same class. You will discuss the incredible musicianship, the famous concerts, the sharing of audiences and the vast legacy that the bands have shared. In addition, you’ll listen to some of our favorite music along the way. With the Allmans it’s the truly frightening vocal of Whipping Post and the absolutely swinging rhythm of Don’t Want You No More. For the Dead it is their absolute grasp of the entirety of American music fused with a mind-boggling grasp of collective improvisation. Former Tower Records managers Paul Gongola and Scott Cashman will spend 2 evenings discussing these artists and offer their analysis of what uniquely distinguishes these bands and why they will matter to our grandchildren.
