Jim Summaria – Biography and photo of instructor

For over 40 years, Jim Summaria has photographed classic rock, blues, pop and folk stars in performance. His rock ‘n’ roll photography has appeared in many books, magazines, websites and music CD sleeves. Institutions like The Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, Grammy Awards, Smithsonian Institute, Canadian Postal Service and the Torquay Museum in England have selected Jim’s images for special projects. Author Douglas Harr called Jim one of the best rock photojournalists in his book, Rockin’ the City of Angels.

“This book is not a historical account of all classic rock acts or the most important. It is a book that pays tribute to those acts that I was fortunate to photograph and who continue to move us…and you,” Jim clarifies. Co-author Mark Plotnick adds, “We place the spotlight on the golden-era of classic rock ‘n’ roll when accountants knew their boundaries and studios kept the tape machines rolling overtime in order to capture those unscripted moments of magic.”

Welcome to the photographer’s pit and see these acts as viewed through the eyes of a veteran classic rock photographer!

Jim Summaria is a long time instructor in the Harper College Continuing Education Photography program.
