Course Description

Your life is full of memorable experiences and stories. You’ve probably thought or been told by friends that you should write a book. In this introductory course, you’ll explore the rewarding, yet challenging, memoir genre and learn the basics of memoir writing.  You’ll read excerpts from contemporary memoirs and discuss how each format may or may not work to tell your narrative.  In-class exercises, prompts and activities will give you the tools you need to develop ideas and begin telling your story. Whether you want to publish your work or create a legacy for future generations, this class will get you started.

“I attended the Memoir course taught by Laura Ehrke. Each class provided writing inspirations which I know I needed. She took us through a very structured methodology of teaching us how to approach writing our histories. She is extremely encouraging and allowed us all to share what our approaches were and how the work was being developed. She encouraged feedback and provided guidance when we got stuck. I am keeping in touch with Laura for her next courses at Harper College because I definitely want to be on the roster!”

“I just finished the Memoir class at HARPER COLLEGE taught by a great teacher, Laura E. The FUN, informative lectures(talks) make you really sit back and think.
