Palestinian music During the 20th Century: Blends of Poetry, Love, and War
Palestinian music is an organic part of the music from the Levant or the Near East. Music composed by Palestinians has a unique character. It uses local elements, including the maqam system and folklore. It also draws on different regional influences, as well as Western genres. Ultimately, this has created a remarkable Palestinian musical diversity and sound that is still widely unknown. This course involves a great deal of listening. Some of the songs and instrumental music that it will cover are considered rare.
