Course Description

Exposure to COVID 19 and other infectious diseases can result in significant illness or even death. Since January 21, 2020 over 18,910,000 people residing in the United States have contracted COVID 19, approximately 99 people per 100,000 have died from COVID 19. Workers can protect themselves by understanding sources of infection, recognizing potential hazards, and knowing how to mitigate or avoid the hazards through safe practices and personal protective equipment. At the completion of the course students will know sources of COVID 19 virus and other infectious diseases, basic hazards of infection, and be able avoid/control the risk to avoid illness using safe practices and personal protective equipment.

  1. Pathogen basics
  2. Identify mechanisms for spreading infectious illnesses
  3. Know the OSHA rules, regulations and other standards relating to COVID 19 and infectious illness
  4. Techniques, policies, and procedures to control potential COVID hazards in your work areas
  5. How vaccines work
  6. Respiratory protection and other types of personal protective equipment
  7. Procedures if an employee becomes ill
  8. Contact tracing
