As a continent, Australia has enough environmental diversity to be home to more than 100 varieties of grape. Reds, whites and even sparkling wine is represented in this large and still growing wine producing country. Exports are now approaching $2 billion (U.S.)! You’ll find the big name grapes represented in Australia: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Semillon, Pinot noir, Riesling, and Sauvignon blanc as the grape is not native to Australia though they have bred some varieties including Cienna and Tarrango. Marcel Flori will look at the phenomenon of Australian wine. The class includes a tasting. Students must be 21 years of age or older to enroll.
