Course Description

The Spanish conquistadors in the 16th Century, and later the French, introduced wine making to Chile. This, combined with the diversity of grape growing regions contribute to the diversity of Chilean viticulture. From the Spanish comes the Vitis vinifera family and from the French comes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère and Franc. Since the 1980s, investments to capitalize on favorable growing conditions has driven the quality of their wine up, overcoming the previous reputation. In fact, Chile is now a top 5 importer of wine to the United States while also developing other international markets. Marcel Flori will help you explore the wines of Chile with his insights. In-person classes include a tasting. Students must be 21 years of age or older to enroll.
