Course Description

As one of the founders of the Vienna Secession Art Movement and often regarded as the greatest painter of Art Nouveau, Gustav Klimt focused much of his work upon the appreciation of the female form, was famed for incorporating gold leaf into particular works, such as "Woman in Gold," the portrait of Adele Block- Bauer and "The Kiss." These works result as highly decorative pieces of art, as are his landscapes and many murals.

The beauty of Klimt's works will b discussed in context with the city of Vienna at the turn of the 20th century, a center for extravagant cultural achievement, second only to Paris.
