Course DescriptionThe city of Rome began as an iron age village in the mid 8th century BCE, and was founded according to a legend by twin brothers Romulus and Remus. In 616 BCE the Etruscans seized power and dominated the Italian Penninsula for a period of 400 years. Later the Roman people established a Republic. Julius Caesar emerged aa a military leader in the first century became a dictator and after a twenty-year civil war, Augustus began to form the Empire Period that lasted 300 years.
Rome's history is over 2000 years old and it was there that the Christian Church was organized under Constantine. Today's great sites include the Vatican, ancient architecture. forums, fountains. parks, catacombs, museums, and galleries.
