Course Description

Yosemite Valley- one of the most photographed places of scenic beauty in the United States! No wonder that it became a National Park! Yet the resources in the park (like water) are in demand. How does this affect the National Park? What series of natural geologic processes created such a beautiful valley? This class will also look into the ongoing need to acquire water for one of the most heavily populated areas in the Unites States. The problem continues due to a lack of natural water sources sufficient to meet the needs of an ever-growing population. Let’s look at historic efforts of attaining a water supply for the ever-increasing need and how it has created a ongoing history of man’s inability to control the most necessary resource on the planet. This class will also examine the water controversies of Yosemite National Park and the Owens Valley as well as the Salton Sea.
