Course Description

“Rags to riches” stories are common in American history, but this one is exceptional. Eliza Jumel was born in a brothel in the year that the Revolutionary War broke out. She went on to become one of the richest women in New York City. She made a killing in business, befriended Napoleon Bonaparte and married -- and divorced -- Aaron Burr. Her remarkable rise shows just how much was possible in the young United States.
