Course Description

Ravenna, the city of art, is universally known for its mosaics. Travel to this fascinating Italian city for a highly visual look at its masterpieces of mosaic art and late Roman architecture. During the later 6th century Ravenna hosted a renaissance of biblical Byzantine mosaics, remaining the most important site outside Constantinople. The Church of San Vitale, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is especially celebrated for its extensive and best-preserved mosaic art of the Justinian era (c. 540-750). Examine its great beauty and learn about the signs and symbols of Old and New Testament art.
