Course Description

By the 16th century, Venetian art takes center stage in importance and influence in the artistic world. Three artists, Titian, Tintoretto, and Veronese are leaders in the aesthetic transformation of the culture. Individualism, Internationalism and secularization emerge, and each influence is reflected artistically in a more intimate, erotic and poetic approach to painting. Mythological subjects are in demand in secular painting; religious paintings that reflect Counter-Reformation thinking add to artistic commissions. Be prepared to enjoy this exceptional period of Late Renaissance art.
