Course Description

Ansel Adams, photographer, environmentalist and writer was born on February 29, 1902, in San Francisco and taught himself to play piano and to read music at the age of 12. Although piano and music was his primary occupation for the next few years he gave it up once he was given his first Kodak Box Camera by his father on a visit to Yosemite. The rest is history. After several more visits to the Sierras, Ansel began to absorb the grand vistas, the magic of the cool dawns, and the brilliance of the stars at night. These became the subject of his well-known photographs and publications.
