Course DescriptionDr. Albert Barnes became an art collector and assembled one of the world's most important holdings of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and early 20th-century private collections of art. Though he was often criticized by art historians and other collectors for his audacity and for creating his own ensembles in his own home according to his own taste and sense of aesthetics, he invited his guests, other collectors, and art historians to view them and learn from them. The collection was moved from his home about 7 years ago to the new landscaped 4.5-acre site in Philadelphia on Ben Franklin Parkway and is open to the public.

I was in your class today and left quickly when the lights came on - I just wanted to let you know why the hasty departure. The class was listed as 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and I had an appointment in Elgin at 3:00, so when the lights came on at 2:45 I realized I had to high-tail it out! Thank you for the lecture. I visited the Barnes in Philadelphia last year and appreciated the additional insights that you provided into the art.
