Course Description

Discover the basics of web design using HTML and CSS. No prior knowledge of HTML or web design is required. Throughout the course you will get the info you need to plan and design effective web pages. Come away knowing how to implement web pages by writing HTML and CSS code. And discover ways to enhance web pages with the use of page layout techniques, text formatting, graphics, and images.

Structure vs Presentation
  • Introduction to HTML5 Basic Markup

  • Understanding web graphics
  • Acquiring images / Copyright law and graphics on the web
  • Optimizing images
  • Adding images to your web page
Unit 4
Publishing Your Site
  • Domain Name Registration / Hosting Services
  • Finding the appropriate Hosting space
  • Publishing Website Using FTP-Client

About Your Instructor:

Tonya D. Wright is an accomplished web designer and programmer with 15 years of experience in web design and leading teams developing new media marketing. She served as senior graphic designer for Habitat for Humanity International, and is currently Manager of Digital Development Services for Columbus State University. Ms. Wright is also a corporate training consultant and directs a virtual team of multimedia developers, video producers, and graphic designers for a variety of consulting projects for her own design firm.

Learner Outcomes

At the end of the course you will:
  • Understand the principles of creating an effective web page, including an in-depth consideration of information architecture.
  • Be familiar with graphic design principles that relate to web design and learn how to implement these theories into practice.
  • Learn the language of the web: HTML and CSS.
  • Know how to identify the most common types of Web graphic files and how they are optimized for Web presentation.
  • Be able to select appropriate Website design and development software.
