Course Description

This continuation of Group Piano for Beginners 1 will expand on previously learned concepts and focus on advanced staff reading, intervals of 2nds and 3rds, hand shape and finger development, playing music in a variety of characters and styles, and creative activities. No new materials needed.
 

 

Course Outline

In addition to our group music classes for youth, we offer the following bundle.

The Preparatory Piano Program
The program consists of a combination of group and private instruction for ages 6 tp 14. Group lessons offer students peer reinforcement, social interaction, ensemble experience, and group activities. Private lessons give students the necessary individual attention for technical development and interpretive and expressive insights. By combining these two approaches, students receive a comprehensive 15 week curriculum. Students will participate in one 30 minute private lesson and one 50 minute group lesson each week. All students taking private lessons for the first time must fill out the First Time Student Form. Our Piano Facilitator will get in touch with you to coordinate further. Once you're registered, the times, days, and dates for the group and private portions of the program will be communicated. 
All private lessons are held at Harper College's main campus.

Private Lessons / Instruments Offered for Ages 5-17:
Ages 5-8: Piano, Suzuki piano, orchestral percussion, violin, Suzuki violin, cello, double bass*, guitar (including electric*), jazz guitar, ukulele, banjo*, jazz piano, mandolin, drums, fiddle, voice*, and hand drum.

Ages 9-10: All of the above plus accordion, flute, clarinet, trumpet, double bass, Indian Tabla, harmonica and oud*.

Ages 11-17: All of the above plus viola, oboe, saxophone, bassoon, trombone, French horn, voice, euphonium, and tuba.

Ages 17+ All of the above

*Some instruments require that we meet with younger children for assessment.
