Course DescriptionThis 4-week course is the second in the basics of floral design series and will include a review of the elements and principles of floral design and expand on the repertoire of shapes that can be created in centerpiece design. An emphasis on line, form, space, proportion, color and texture as well as proper mechanics will be applied to each fresh arrangement created with popular varieties of flowers and foliage. Basic floral pricing will be discussed, and students will take home completed projects including a round arrangement, triangular arrangement, crescent arrangement, and an elongated low centerpiece. Students should plan to bring floral cutters to each class.
SESSION 1 (4 weeks) – “Shaping up your Floral Designs” --Exploring floral centerpiece shapes
Week 1 (9/7) – Students will enjoy an overview of:
Fresh floral processing basics.
Elements of floral design: line, form, space, texture, pattern, size/proportion, color, fragrance;
Introduce basic floral design styles with focus on round design
Intro to floral materials used for line, form, mass, and filler
PROJECTS: Create a round fall basket centerpiece arrangement
Week 2 (9/14) - Intro to Triangular design / discuss color theory
PROJECT: Create an equilateral triangular centerpiece
Week 3 (9/21) – Intro to the crescent shaped arrangement
PROJECT: Create a crescent shaped arrangement in fall tones
Week 4 (9/28) – Intro to linear design.
PROJECT: Create a linear fall theme centerpiece
