Step into the world of horse and equine healthcare with this full day, hands-on experience. Shadow an experienced large animal veterinarian for a day and observe real-world diagnostic procedures, treatments, and patient care.

Course Outline
Your ride along experience may include:
- Health exams and vaccinations
- Emergency and urgent care cases
- Sedation and minor surgical procedures
- Dental work, colic, and obstruction treatment
- Lameness, neurological, and lunging evaluations
- Disease diagnosis, X-rays, and ultrasound imaging
Learner Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Observe and describe a variety of equine healthcare procedures
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic horse safety and handling protocols
- Explain the roles, education paths, and working conditions of equine veterinarians and veterinary technicians
About Your Instructor:
Dr. Kati Lukas has been an equine veterinarian since graduating from Iowa State University in 2008. After completing a rotating internship in Kansas City where she gained experience in surgery, lameness, internal medicine, and ambulatory practice, Dr. Lukas returned to the Chicagoland area and opened Lukas Equine Veterinary Service in 2011. Her passion for equine athletes has taken her from racetracks to dressage arenas, polo matches, and 4-H clubs.
Dr. Lukas is a frequent speaker for the Trail Riders of DuPage (TROD). You may recognize her from "Ask the Vet" in The Horse magazine! Dr. Lukas is committed to using cutting edge diagnostics and treatments in order to provide the best possible care for each individual equine patient, performance or pleasure.
Notes
This hands-on experience takes place on-location with a local Equine Veterinarian during her scheduled appointments. You are responsible for your own transportation and may visit up to three different sites during your ride along day. Exact addresses and details will be provided by Lukas Equine 1-2 days before your scheduled date.
